MY Bumpersticker Message

You have all doubtless seen the COEXIST bumpersticker on the rear of a car in front of you while driving through Madison or the East Side.
Todd McMahon created a parody, substituting two of the symbols in the middle to make a point.
Charlie Sykes posted the parody on his blog, and has taken flack from the Left for doing so.
In the spirit of the blue bumpersticker, here is my suggestion:
As the days of Advent approach, it is good to remember that God so loves us that sent His one and only Son down to Earth to be born, live among us, and die on a cross for our sins.

It wasn’t just the left. I gave him flack too. Basically anyone that knows hypocrisy when they see it gave him flack.

Like, maybe that’s just your opinion man. You should give the Flying Spaghetti Monster a try. Only He can truly save you.

i think it’s important to remember the God sent his only son to die for our sins, but it’s also important to remember that your neighbor might not believe that and doesn’t deserve to be crusaded against because of his different belief. we should hold firm to our religous beliefs first but not far behind we should value respect for each other… that’s why i think u’ll find the coexist bumper stickers in all areas of our nation, not just madison

Hmmm….in thinking of the controversy surrounding the coexist bumper sticker, as well as young Daniel’s own ham-handed attempt at his own interpretation of the bumper sticker, I’m reminded of one of my favorite passages from the Bible:
“Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke [reason with] thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord.”
– Leviticus 19: 17-18 (KJV)
In this passage originates a powerful idea: that you should treat your fellow as you yourself would be treated. This is perhaps the oldest definition of empathy, and it’s something folks like young Daniel and all the right-wing talking heads here in SE Wisconsin would be wide to keep in their minds and hearts.

This is pretty funny, however if I see you on the road I will likely run you into a ditch. Christian Evangelism is totally annoying and the reason that liberals will CONTINUE to get Christ out of the schools and state-houses. If Christian Evangelicals were a bit more civil you would NOT face attack. Want to be “in your face” then you will get a boot in your face when you are not welcome.

It’s always nice to see a Bible verse quoted. Aside from that the interpretation of Daniel and Christians in some of these posts are so far off it’s laughable. I don’t think Daniel hates anyone and I hope the others people who have posted a response don’t either despite how their responses read. Nevertheless, even if the posts are as hateful as they seem everyone is entitled to their opinion. I wish you well.

I’ve got an idea. It may sound a bit radical to some, but here’s my idea:
Lead by example.
Take the bumper stickers off your cars and practice what you preach. You want me to coexist with other people? Great! Show me that it’s worthwhile, and I’ll consider it. You want me to be Christian? Great! Show me that the Christian lifestyle and believe system is worthwhile, and I’ll consider it. But don’t give me reasons why I “must do” or “must believe” in something unless you can back it up with your own behavior. If you can’t or won’t put your beliefs in practice, why should I?
Shakespeare said it best:
“Do not, as some ungracious pastors do,
Show me the steep and thorny way to heaven
While he the primrose path of dalliance treads
And recks not his own rede.”

Oh, also:
Anybody else notice that when Sykes subbed in a swastika, it specifically replaced the Jewish star? I’m oddly surprised he didn’t get a reaction to that…maybe people have finally stopped taking Mr. “I dumped my wife to marry my mistress, but I’m a bastion of morality” Sykes seriously.
I consider that a positive development…the man is truly distasteful.

Awwww, good old-fashioned religious intolerance. How cute. I forgot that Christianity was far superior to Judaism and Islam, my mistake.
